High Mileage
I have noticed that fuel mileage has increased over the past 20 years. The pollution from cars has declined steadily over the past 30 years. There are more cars on the road now than ever before. Gasoline has changed over the past 60 or so years.
When did they start putting lead into gas? Right after World War II. Do you know why? In 1936, a mam named Charles Nelson Pogue, of Canada,invented a carb tat got 26.2 Miles to the pint. That is 209.6 Miles per gallon!! The carb used the heat of the engine's exhaust, plus spray nozzles to atomize the fuel.
It was estimated that his carb was 72 percent effiecent.
It is believed by some, that lead was added to the gas formulation to foul high mileage carbs. Have you ever seen the varnish that builds up inside a carb? Imagine what that does to the inside of your engine.
They say that the additives in gas clean your engine. The truth is if you tool the additives out the gas would by nature burn cleaner. But, then you car would get better fuel mileage, require less maitainance, last longer, need fewer tune-ups, pollute less, and lower the profits for the oil and car companies.
When the carb was introduced, fuel stocks on the Winnepeg Exchange dropped. Why? Pogue's Patent, and an article about him, can be seen at, Rex Research.com.
Pogue was not the only person to get high mileage from his carb. Tom Ogle, in 1978, drove s 1970 Ford Galaxie 500 with a 400 cubic inch engine 0ver 200 ils on less than 2 gallons of fuel. He drov from El Paso Texas, to Dnning New Mexico, a distance of 200 miles round trip. This event was witnessed and reporte on in the local press more than once.
